READ BOOKS…AND READ WIDE

Whenever you pick a book and read, here’s what you’re simply doing; you’re acquiring effortlessly in one fell swoop all that the author went through to arrive at the material. If it took the author years of research to produce that material, then you’re gaining all that experience in say, just one week, or one month as the case may be.
Life is a complex combination of 4 events, just four. Preparation, Practice, Failure and Success. Check it, all of human activities fall under one or more of the four. Whatever you do, you are either preparing for something or doing that something. And when you do it, you’ll either fail or succeed. Of these four, failure is the most defining of them.
Success makes you fulfilled, but we learn more from our failures. Usually, we get toughened by disappointments and setbacks. When we learn what we should, and bounce back more powerful, we become unstoppable. More still, we now have our own textbook of experience to always refer to as we journey through life.
Now when an author captures all of these experiences spanning over maybe years – his preparations , practices, failures and successes on a subject into a book – and you pick up, read and digest that stuff, you’ve simply injested his life! You’re now more than one person! Someone once said that it isnt true that we have only one life to live. if we can read, we can live as many more lives and as many kinds of lives as we wish, Books are lighthouses erected in the great sea of time.
According to Walter Isaacson, President and CEO of Aspen Institue, after a careful study of the worlds greatest Geniuses – Da Vinci, Albert Einstein, Benjamin Franklin, Steve Jobs etc – summarized that geniuses are made through Cross Discipline and Pattern Recognition. And that’s what you get from reading very wide, across several disciplines. Whenever you read a good book, somewhere in the world, a door opens to allow in more light. So hit the bookstore today, spend some money on books…and read them. As many as possible. I tell you, once you learn to read, you will be forever free!
