The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye Ph.D, graciously granted approval for the establishment of this great Academy in 1994, as an offshoot of the Redeemed Christian Bible College (RCBC) but with a distinct nomenclature. It commenced full academic work in January, 1995 at RCCG Apapa Parish (Freedom Hall) . The major purpose of the Institute is the training of Christian Leaders both for Ministry and the market place, who are transformed to drive urban and international missions with a view to achieving spiritual and social transformation. It’s special focus has been on professionals and leaders of influence, providing them broader and deeper Biblical foundation and principles to function as effective ambassadors for Christ in their spheres of influence.
The Academy has tenaciously pursued this mandate of training Christian leaders beyond the pulpit context. Over the years, it has enrolled and trained men and women from all walks of life including captains of industries, Chief Executives and top functionaries of various organizations and government agencies, serving and retired Military Officers, top technocrats, politicians, traditional rulers, and ministers of God amongst others. The graduates are making giant strides in Ministry both within RCCG and other Churches, as well as in other sectors of the economy locally and internationally. They are boldly leading transformation in their respective areas of human endeavour.
The management has also developed some portfolios of brand new courses and programmes including Masters programmes in the areas of Pastoral and Christian Leadership in general. Equally, they are working at having affiliations with some credible universities both locally and internationally, including the Redeemers University. Also, they are working towards having a befitting permanent site.
CHANGE OF NAME
The Academy was formerly known as the INTERNATIONAL BIBLE INSTITUTE & LEADERSHIP TRAINING SCHOOL. The name was seen as long and does not reflect the name of the parent as is the case with other Schools that belong to the Church such as the Redeemed Christian Bible College (RCBC), the Redeemed School of Missions (RESCOM), Redeemers University (RUN), etc.
To this end, the leadership humbly requested the kind permission of the General Overseer and Chairman of the Governing Board to change the name of the School to REDEEMER’S INTERNATIONAL LEADERSHIP ACADEMY (RILA). The new name is concise and will at a glance reveal that the School is of the stock of The Redeemed Christian Church Of God with special focus on BIBLICAL and PASTORAL LEADERSHIP TRAINING.
It is gladening to note that the Academy recently received approval from the Chairman, Governing Board and the General Overseer of the RCCG, Pastor E. A. Adeboye, to effect a wide range of strategic transformation that will reposition it for greater effectiveness and impact.
The school’s strength has always been on developing and teaching Christian concepts of leadership. Its mission is to remain RCCG’s flagship for Christian leadership education and for the body of Christ at large.
